It’s National Volunteer Week! Regal Springs Celebrates Those Who Make A Difference!
In Honor of National Volunteer Week, Regal Springs is partnering with seashare to Donate 48,000 Servings of Tilapia to Support Hunger Relief Efforts!
Did you know that over 42 million (1 in 8) Americans live in food-insecure households? Those struggling with food insecurity face the burden of not only getting enough to eat, but also accessing nutrient-rich foods that promote good health and help reduce risk of chronic disease. Often times low-income individuals and families are forced to make decisions as to how to get by with what little they have, which can mean skipping meals or buying cheap, unhealthy calories. Therefore, it’s never been more important to support the nation’s wide network of food banks. With the help of countless volunteers and organizations like SeaShare, households dealing with food insecurity are able to access nutrient dense-foods at their local food banks.
In honor of National Volunteer Week, Regal Springs Tilapia is joining forces with SeaShare to bring healthy seafood to food banks across the country, by donating a total of 48,000 servings of nutrient-rich tilapia. Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week is an annual celebration to promote and show appreciation for volunteerism and to recognize and thank volunteers, who lend their time, talent, voice and support to causes they care about in their community.
“Food donations are, of course, important, but food banks wouldn’t be what they are without the help of non-profit organizations like SeaShare and the thousands of dedicated volunteers who donate their time to their community,” said Francis Yupangco, head of global marketing at Regal Springs. “We chose SeaShare as a partner based on alignment—we’re both passionate about making sure everyone has access to nutrient-rich seafood. With so many Americans still struggling with hunger, SeaShare is making a huge impact by providing seafood to food banks, pantries and shelters across the country. This week we celebrate organizations like SeaShare and all of the hard-working volunteers.”
The seafood donation marks another key milestone in the partnership between Regal Springs and SeaShare. Since December 2015, Regal Springs has donated over 140,000 servings of healthy, responsibly raised tilapia to the non-profit organization. Since 1994, SeaShare has helped the seafood industry donate over 200 million servings of seafood to food banks across the country.
“We are thrilled to work with Regal Springs again,” said Jim Harmon, executive director of SeaShare, “and so grateful for this generous donation. With their continued support, we are able to provide thousands of people with nutrient-rich, high-quality fish that they might not have access to otherwise. Despite the incredible resources and opportunities that exist in our country, hunger continues to grow. Our seafood industry has the resources, the expertise and generosity to make significant contributions to fill the hunger needs of many Americans.”
