BETTER EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS.
Education for the people of Regal Springs is a top priority. Because many of our fishing communities are in remote, rural areas, we continuously invest in building and operating local schools and paying teacher salaries. In Honduras alone we’ve funded over 60 schools—while in other communities we’ve installed solar panels in many schools with no electricity.
Our efforts include making sure children are properly equipped to learn—providing books, school supplies and uniforms. For a young child, a new backpack becomes a source of pride—a tangible sign that school is important, and proof that the community stands behind them on their journey to learn.
In our communities, education is not just for children. Regal Springs offers free adult education to our employees and other adults in their families to learn and grow. Our adult education program in Honduras is an inspiring example. When we started our program in 2005, 8 out of 10 adults in the region were considered illiterate. SUPPORTING FAMILIES WITH STRONG WAGES AND HEALTH BENEFITS.
Regal Springs recognizes the good work of our people with strong compensation. This includes providing livable wages as well as life and health insurance for our employees and their families.
Keeping our employees healthy is extremely important to us. We build local medical clinics and fund free wellness checkups, preventive care, medication and immunizations for adults and children. We even provide the ambulances.
A prime example of our many community health initiatives is dengue fever prevention. The fever is a serious public health threat in some communities. To help safeguard the people in these areas, we spray against mosquitoes in the villages, provide medical attention and supplies, and collect garbage that traps water in which mosquitoes proliferate.

From road improvements to ensuring a plentiful supply of clean water, Regal Springs is committed to improving the communities in which we work. We’ve distributed thousands of Eco Stoves, installed solar panels, and built churches, mosques and sport venues.
When natural disasters have struck, we’ve been right there with our people helping them rebuild—and build better.
Our support also extends to helping people build up their own businesses that support our business. We offer assistance and training for independent aquaculture projects, which work in conjunction with Regal Springs’ operations. And we give tilapia fingerlings and cages to villagers for growing and selling at local markets.
Whether an annual holiday or a special occasion, we actively celebrate the culture of our communities. A strong community, after all, is one that has fun together. At Regal Springs, we like to do that too.

Our processing plants in Mexico, Honduras and Indonesia are among the most advanced in the world. The fish brought live to our plants from the nearby lakes are processed within minutes—meticulously monitored by a team of certified inspectors to ensure absolute quality and consistency. Each tilapia is hand-cut, trimmed, inspected and packed ready to cook.

AQUACULTURE: PART OF THE SOLUTION.
The world’s growing, and so is its demand for protein sources. Aquaculture, or fish farming, is an important part of meeting that need while respecting our natural world.
At a time when more land is being consumed for agriculture and development, we operate frugally on the water—utilizing less than 1% of the surface area of the clean, freshwater lakes where we fish.
PRESERVING THE LAND
Our success depends on maintaining the health of the waters where we work. The greatest threat is from deforestation that could result in land erosion—introducing unhealthy levels of organic matter into the waters.
We work with local communities, non-governmental organizations and government agencies to keep this from happening. Our “Fish for Trees” project educates residents on aquaculture career alternatives to deforesting environmentally sensitive areas. We provide funding and infrastructure for reforestation projects so communities can help reverse past years of deforestation and damage.
PROTECTING THE WATER
Clean water is our business. That’s why we have a track record of environmental sensitivity and best practices with our fishing operations.
We conduct extensive monitoring at our on-site water quality labs to ensure the ecosystems of our lakes remain healthy. We use floating feed to eliminate wasted resources and avoid contamination.
We have advanced water treatment systems at all our plants and employ creative ways to recycle water—from fertilizing and irrigating crops to catfish farming.
A STRICT ZERO-WASTE POLICY.
The prized parts of our tilapia—the loins and fillets—make up 35% of the fish that we harvest. We’re careful to ensure every part of our fish goes to good use as we work to protect the environment:
• Scales are used in the manufacture of collagen for cosmetics
• Most skins are used in gelatin production for pharmaceuticals. Other skins are transformed into a high-fashion alternative to leather
• Fish oil and solids are separated in the production process to become animal feed and biodiesel fuel that powers our trucks, generators and other equipment
• Innards, frames and trimmings are transformed into a nutrient-rich compost that is given out free to local farmers
A company grounded in sustainability, Regal Springs Tilapia is focused on improvements in the health and yield of what has been dubbed the fish of the future. The company’s founder Rudolf Lamprecht began farming in the pristine lakes of Java in the 1980’s as a way to help the impoverished communities. He envisioned his farms providing opportunity for individuals to create livelihoods and to express themselves with creativity and purpose. Lamprecht’s success with tilapia helped him to pioneer all elements of the business; his innovation and willingness to explore new technologies led him to move production to floating cages in pristine lakes.
Rudi’s idea was a success and soon, production outpaced sales. Regal Springs began to look for new markets, including the United States, where it eventually landed its first large foodservice contract. Over the last 25 years, tilapia has gone from a virtually unknown fish in the USA to the 4th-most-consumed seafood item after shrimp, salmon and tuna.
In 2016, Regal Springs was acquired by the Golden Springs Group, headed by founder Peter Zuellig. Golden Springs is committed to support and further strengthen the business expansion of Regal Springs by contributing its deep know-how in the life sciences sectors in emerging markets.
