We use all of the Tilapia fish; nothing is wasted. The scales and skin go into pharmaceutical applications of gelatin and collagen. Some skins are also converted into leather for luxury accessories. In Java, our skins are used for making “fish chips” — a valued snack in Indonesia. Guts and frames are used for bio-diesel, fish meal and fish oil production, as well as compost in some of our farms. Effluent waters, at our processing facility in Sumatra, are used to fertilize and irrigate rice fields.
